Palm Springs film awards released

This year's Palm Springs International Film Festival comes just one week before the Golden Globe Awards, bringing aficionados a preliminary feast for the eyes and ears. The festival honored filmmakers for their work in 2011, as well as career-long achievements.

The 23rd Palm Springs event was held last Saturday in Palm Springs., California. Hosted by Mary Hart, who just stepped down as an anchor for the daily news show Entertainment Tonight, the event released honorees under various titles.

Brad Pitt received the Desert Palm Achievement Award for "Moneyball" and "The Tree of Life."

The Chairman's Award for "The Descendants" went to actor George Clooney. Actress Glenn Close, Michelle Williams and composer Howard Shore were also awarded.
