2012 Happy Spring Festival starts worldwide

Happy Spring Festival 2012 got started on Tuesday in 82 countries and regions with 144 cities participating. The main sponsor of the festival is China's Ministry of Culture. And with more than 300 activities being organized, including photo exhibitions and performances, there should be something for everyone.

In Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi in Africa, as performance by artists from both countries welcomed the coming of Spring Festival.

The president of Malawi, Bingu wa Mutharika attended the show and sent his best wishes for Chinese people. Meanwhile, he thanked the Chinese people for the generous help they have offered to the people of Malawi.

Famous celebrities Ni Ping, Yang Lan and Lang Lang as been invited to be this year's Happy Spring Festival's image ambassadors. They attended the opening ceremony in Beijing and will participate in activities in Paris and Tokyo, helping people around the world learn more about Chinese culture.

Lang Lang, concert pianist, said, "I am so honored to participate in this festival and to be the image ambassador. This can encourage me to perform better and make my contribution for Chinese culture."

This is the third time the Ministry of Culture has organized this kind of festival. And compared with the previous two years, the 2012 event has more activities on offer. The Chinese embassies and Confucius Institutes scattered around the world will have local Spring Festival activities to celebrate the Year of the Dragon.
