Rio fashion week brings 2012 winter trends

Rio de Janeiro's bi-annual week-long fashion event kicked off on Tuesday. Brazilian designers are presenting their upcoming autumn/winter collections at the event. Now let's head to Rio to see what's coming down the catwalk.

During a sunny day of summer, important brands presented their 2012 autumn/winter collection in warehouses located at Rio's historic seaport area.

While the first runway show of the day took place on stage one, Acquastudio's designer, Esther Bauman, supervised the final touches on her clothes. She will showcase knits, organza and tulle, reflecting haute couture of the 1940's and 1950's.

Bauman talked about the importance of concentrating the fashion shows in the country.

Esther Bauman said, "My opinion is that the organizers should really combine the fashion events. They should do summer here and winter in Sao Paulo. I think it is a pity that we have so many fashion shows to present great and innovative designers. We should concentrate them like in Paris, Milan, London and New York. Only one powerful fashion event in Brazil."

Dresses and long skirts in gold, pink and nude colors were displayed on the models.

Kicking off the event was designer Alexandre Hechcovitch who dressed his models in denim and dark colors. The collection was inspired by New Yorker artists of the 1980's.

U.S. fashion journalist Glen Valdario admitted he was a long-time fan of the brand.

Glen Valdario said, "I really love Alexander Herchcovitch's work and I used to go to his shows in NY. You know, it's denim, so it's a little more casual and you know his vision. I mean, Rio's great. Brazil's really having its moment."

Rio de Janeiro's Fashion Week closes this Saturday.
