If tourists want to discover old Beijing, they shouldn't miss a Hutong tour. And recently in Shichahai, one of Beijing's remaining hutong communities, local tourists agencies, who run most of the pedicabs, have bought 300 new ones.

In these fast-paced times, the pedicab is no longer viable as an effective means of transportation. But in the hutongs of Shichahai in downtown Beijing, tricycles are a common sight. They carry tourists through the narrow lanes, where people still live in traditional homes. As the drivers pedal along, they often chat with their customers, telling them stories of people who have lived here over the centuries.

Most of these pedicabs are run by local tourist agencies. This new batch of 300 pedicabs are said to be safer and more comfortable.

"Nice colors, good service, and beautiful scenery. It's comfortable, I really enjoy myself here!" said a tourist.

Riding on these new pedicabs, working through the maze-like small hutongs and visiting old Beijing families -- that's an experience capital tourists can truly savor.
