Over the weekend, a dance drama called "Days on Stage", or "Fenmo Chunqiu" in Chinese was staged at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, where it was received with thunderous applause. However, few know that this grand performance actually comes from a very small college in Shanxi Province.

Dance drama "Days on Stage" is led by famous dancer Huang Doudou and companied by Shanxi Arts Vocational College. Its plot revolves around an opera master and his three students. Taking the advantage of Shanxi Province as a 52-genre-drama holder, the performance combines the features of both a dance piece and a Chinese opera.

Huang Doudou, artist, said, "It's a very inspiring story, the protagonist has gone through so much on his way to success. And I think we can learn something from that."

And the audience seems to quite enjoy this dance drama.

An audience member said, "It's wonderful! The performance is a great fusion of Chinese opera and dancing."

However, this nationally welcomed performance comes from a small local school - the Shanxi Arts Vocational College. So, how does a teaching and learning-oriented school succeed in developing a market at the same time? And how did this local school burst onto the big stage in Beijing?

Li Li, president of Shanxi Arts Vocational College, said, "Students can not only perform, they can also participate in stage lighting and property arrangement. We are trying to build an education model that consists of four important elements: teaching, performing, reacting and market testing."

Prior to "Days on Stage", Shanxi Arts Vocational College launched its offering from the same genre "A Handful of Jujubas" in December 2004, which has been performed more than 860 times - even in Japan, South Korea and Australia. And this time, "Fenmo Chunqiu" will also go overseas as it was designated to be performed at the "Chinese Cultural Year" in Australia in June.
