The rising temperatures are accompanied by the onset of the symphony season. Beijing's prime performing locale, the National Center for the Performing Arts, has launched its symphony season, that features shows by some of the best symphony orchestras across the country.

The performance by China's National Symphony Orchestra opened the NCPA's symphony season on Saturday night.

The orchestra performed a line-up mixing both western and Chinese classics. They opened the concert with the overture of Ruslan & Ludmila by Glinka, and went on to wow audience with two of the most popular Chinese symphonies of all-time, "The Dance of the Yao People" and "The Red Detachment of Women".

The inspiring tune about women soldiers conducting military drills, which was created in the early 1960s for the ballet drama of the same name, struck a chord with many audience members who are familiar with the tune.

An audience member said, "I enjoyed the show very much, especially when I heard "The Red Detachment of Women". People from our generation are all so fond of that melody."
