The warm weather of May is coming alongside a season of blooming performances in northeast China's coastal city of Dalian. And there's something for everyone.

This is a classical piece of Peking Opera, named "Feng Huan Chao", literally means "Homecoming of a Phoenix." The plot covers the troubled story of the marriages of two sisters during the Ming Dynasty, some 600 years ago. Taiwan artist Wei Haimin was invited to play one of the lead roles.

Wei Haimin said, "There is such a good theatre in Dalian, and so many Peking Opera fans. I hope I can have more chances to give performances here."

Fans seemed to concur.

Chen Jiyang, a Peking opera fan, said, "I'm very happy to enjoy such a show by a famous artists during the holiday."

Liang Enju, another Peking opera fan, said, "It's such a pleasure for fans to watch such a wonderful opera in such a good theatre."

And the treat will last through the year too.

Yang Chi, the Head of Dalian Peking Opera Troupe, said, "We're planning more than 200 shows this year, to give Dalian residents more chances to enjoy the traditional art."

The May Day holiday didn't leave out the kids though. Fairy tales like "Snow White" and "Little Red Riding Hood" were staged as well - helping inspire a new generation of would-be theater fans.

All this is something familiar for the city. Because of government support, Dalian residents are able to enjoy such shows almost every day at relatively low prices. And the policy is helping revive a vibrant theater industry in the city.
