The annual Meet in Beijing Arts Festival has been bringing renowned artists and performers to China since 2000. This year, Spanish soloist Luz Casal has brought her magical voice to the Chinese audience.

Luz Casal is arguably the most famous female vocalist in Spain and she treated the audience with a selection of the best of her works over her 30-year career on Sunday. Let's head to the Beijing Poly Theater to take a look.

For Luz Casal, singing is her passion. Confidence and energy overflowed in her opening song "The Sea And The Sky". Performing in China has always been her dream and she hopes to share a rich variety of her works with the audience in China.

Luz Casal, Spanish pop singer, said "I'm so excited. We have a lot of different songs, songs for love, pain, many things."

Casal is not only a top-notch stage performer, her songs were also featured in many famous Spanish films, making her a European superstar in the 1980s.

One of the audience said "I first knew her in movies. She was a great singer."

Traditional Spanish Flamingo dancing and music gave her voice even more charm as the audience resonated with her energy and excitement. Few would even dream that the very person on stage was fighting for survival against a lethal illness only 2 years ago.

Another audience said "She had breast cancer, but she fought it and came through and went on singing, which made her career all the more extraordinary. After spending 5 years in Spain, her voice attracts me like a magnet, I keep coming back for more."

One of the audience is half-Chinese and half-Spanish, she said “I knew Luz Casal from very early on when I was in Spain. I admire both her talent and her courage. She was twice diagnosed with cancer and is still remarkably active in her career."

Casal hopes to share more of her talent and the remarkable story of her career as she goes on to perform in Shanghai and Guangzhou on May 8th and 10th.
