The annual Hong Kong Book Fair, one of the largest of its kind in Asia, opened Wednesday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. 530 exhibitors from 23 countries and regions are taking part in the week-long event, an all-time high!

Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the fair features more than 350 cultural events. 300 speakers, including renowned writers and celebrities, will hold lectures, seminars, workshops and story-telling sessions under the theme "Reading the World, We Read therefore We Know".

In a major new innovation, the fair is also using innovative scanning technology to recommend books to visitors.

Readers can activate an app to scan selected books and create a "My Favorite Book" list by choosing e-books they are interested in. Last year the fair attracted close to a million visitors. And the organizer expects an even larger turn-out this year.

The Hong Kong Book Fair runs through next Tuesday.
