NCPA Orchestra performs in Berlin

From painting exhibitions, football friendlies to orchestra concerts, a series of activities are being held to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Germany. The Symphony Orchestra of National Centre for Performing Arts, or "NCPA Symphony Orchestra" for short, has just finished their Germany tour with their honored guest conductor, Christoph Eschenbach.

The Berlin concert of NCPA Symphony Orchestra presented a repertoire of typical east-west combination. Dvorak’s Carnival Overture was chosen as the opener, while composer Guo Wenjing’s concerto dedicated to the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake was performed, starring Chinese percussionist Li Biao.

Audience, Konzerthaus Berlin, Germany, said, "I had a pleasant evening here. They’re a group of talented young musicians, and of course I would see more of their performances here in Germany."

72-year-old guest conductor Christoph Eschenbach showed passion on working with such a young orchestra.

Christoph Eschenbach, Conductor, NCPA Symphony Orchestra, said, "Music makes me vibrant, especially when the young musicians play. We have been working really hard, and I’m sure that we’ve done a good job reinterpreting western classics."

Guo Yuliang, President, NCPA Symphony Orchestra, said, "Music is a universal language. Communication via music is the most effective and intimate way to enhance the close relationship between Germany and China. "

This is the Orchestra’s first ever foreign tour. They will also be taking the stage at various classical music festivals, such as the renowned Bad Kissingen and Rasfeld Summer Music Festival.
