Many call it "China’s Silicon Valley", but the Chinese call it Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park. Located in Eastern Shanghai, the park specializes in life sciences and information technology. But since 2004, the cultural industry is also setting up a base there, especially animations..

This 3D blockbuster is named Animen 2, it’s an original 3D Chinese movie from beginning to end, and lauded as China’s ’avatar’.

This is the place where it was made. Hippo animation company is one of the outstanding companies established at the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in Shanghai.

Xu Ke, CEO, Hippo Animation, said, "We started with almost zero, we had no more than 30 people and a tiny office. But Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park saw potential in us and invited us here in 2005."

However, the company was affected by the 2008 financial crisis and was once on the brink of bankruptcy.

Luckily, Zhangjiang offered full support. Not only did they forgo the rent the company owned, but also offered 1 million yuan in bonuses to the company.

Xu Ke, CEO, Hippo Animation, said, "They were extremely patient with me, and struck off 5 million worth of rent. Now I feel emotionally tied to this place. A friend in need is a friend indeed. And this bond that developed over the years cannot be measured with a price tag."

Zhangjiang’s tolerance has paid off. The total value of the cultural industries rose from 1.5 billion yuan in 2005 to 72 billion in 2011, and many believe it is only the beginning.
