From water color cartoons to porcelain design animation, China’s most creative animation works have been wowing audiences at the Sixth Asian Youth Animation & Comics Contest. The event was wrapped up on Sunday in the city of Guiyang in southwest China.

The work ’Nirvana’, which marries traditional blue and white porcelain design with paper cutting design, won the best award for creativity. Organizers say combining innovation with the traditional touch is exactly what they were looking for.

Wang Liuyi, Secretary General, of AYACC, said, "This work tells a story about the harmony between humans and animals, a relevant and universal theme. It’s elegantly presented using traditional Chinese artistic elements."

Unlike the grand prize winner "Lion Dance", many submissions over the years have lacked a certain innovative creativity and cultural identity and so have struggled to make an impact.

Xu Chang, judge of AYACC, said, "Rather than follow every trend that comes along, we need to draw upon our own distinctive cultural identity to produce animation that makes a global impact."

The organizers hope to promote these ideas through the contest and inspire new heights of creativity among China’s young talent.
