The China Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the most internationally acclaimed symphonic groups in Asia, has announced its 12th performing season. Our reporter Mu Fangzhou was there to find out whose names are on the program.

It’s the 12th performing season of China Philharmonic Orchestra’s 13 year history. Artistic director and conductor Yu Long says, to establish a regular performing schedule is critical to the development of an ambitious orchestra.

Yu Long, Artistic Director, China Philharmonic Orchestra said, "Consistency is the key word. We must keep the virtuous cycle of rehearsing and performing, only in this way can we keep the vitality and the spirit of innovation in the long run."

Tchaikovsky’s renowned Symphony No. 5 will be the season opener, starring the return of Wang Xiaodong, a Boston-based violinist who specializes in chamber music.

A string of world-class musicians will make guest appearances, and a glittering array of international conductors will pick up the baton on various occasions, including an Anton Bruckner concert, and a tribute to the Great American Songbook.

2013 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi. The closing concert will be dedicated to him.

Yu Long said "CPO is confident of bringing a high quality live music experience to audiences from all walks of life. We have performed over 1,000 pieces to the public and collaborated with numerous musicians, conductors and composers. And we have always taken the responsibility of promoting symphonic music in the country."
