Singapore's Chinatown celebrates Mid-Autumn with lanterns

Thousands of lanterns are lighting up the streets of Singapore’s Chinatown, marking the start of its Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations.

Dragon dancing and rousing street parades are creating a lively atmosphere along the whole length of Chinatown. Now in its 15th year, the celebration will run until mid October, with an exciting line-up of multi-cultural performances by local and overseas troupes.

Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Chinese Lantern Festival, is a celebration of family unity and traditionally happens on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon is at its fullest. This year the thousand-year old tradition falls on September 30th.
