Video: Dozens of films hit Chinese screen

11-05-2012 19:08 BJT

There are quite a few films scheduled for November releases in China. Twenty-six Chinese films alone are aiming for the spotlight.

Recently premiered "We Are Family" tells the true story of Fan Zhenxi, the head of Zhoutaizi Village in Hebei Province. Over the course of twenty years starting in the 1980s, he led local villagers in a fight against poverty and on the road to fortune. Sadly, luck turned against the hero with a cancer diagnosis.

Zhong Chengxiang, vice chairman of China Federation of Literature & Art, said, "His story inspired film makers to make the film, and this movie will also inspire people to heroism like his."

And another film based on a real story, "Cable way Doctor" is also set to hit screens all over China. The story looks at a local doctor, who has to "fly" across the Nujiang River via a cable way to see his patients. The film took an interesting twist in production. All of the actors in the movie are the genuine article - ordinary local villagers.

Xu Bolin, vice chairman of China Film Association, said, "All of these films reflect the spirit of the Chinese people, and they are also based on true stories, so they’re closer to public."

Of course, that’s not all. "The Big Bowl Tea", "Loyalty and Betrayal", "Sky of Tibet", and "Tree in the Rain" are all gearing up for big November releases as well. And these films each continue with a theme we’ve already seen playing out this month: true stories of ordinary people. The formula, it seems, is a hit.
