Christmas is also shining bright down under.A spectacular Christmas-themed light display in Sydney is drawing crowds of captivated onlookers. For four years, St Mary’s Cathedral has entertained thousands with its festive light display.

Now in its fourth year, the annual event is being hosted by the Archdiocese of Sydney. 75 metres high into the night sky, stained glass mosaics and animations of the nativity are projected onto the southern face of the church. The images are illuminated by 12 projectors shining 26,000 lumens of light onto the sandstone structure. The display runs for 14 minutes, and is looped constantly over a three-hour period. Music and animations tell the story of Christ’s birth, as well as the excitement of children waking up on Christmas Day. More than three hundred and fifty thousand people are expected to be drawn to see the spectacle.
