As the Chinese new year is fast approaching, so is the much anticipated CCTV Spring Festival Gala. Preparations are in full swing as performers have their third full rehearsal with an audience.

The countdown has begun to the most watched TV gala in the world. Led by film director Feng Xiaogang, the show’s creators promise to put on a cheerful and innovative show.

It’s all hustle and bustle inside and outside of the studio. Performers are using every minute to perfect their acts. Zhu Jun is no stranger to the action, as he has hosted the gala many times before.

No cameras are allowed during the rehearsals, as the crew intends to keep the show a surprise until the last minute. But those lucky enough to watch in advance may have some clues.

CCTV’s spring festival gala was initiated in the 1980s. For many it is an integral part of Chinese new year celebrations.

The 4-hour show features songs, dance, magic and acrobatic shows, cross talk and comedy sketches. This year’s show will be aired live on January 30th, the eve of the Chinese new year.
