"This craft was passed down by my great grandfather. I think making sugar figurines is a great way to celebrate the new year."

Figurines made of dough are also a major attraction. Using dough made of paint and sticky rice, the craftsmen mould the material into vivid and colourful creations.

"I have just given birth, so I’m not feeling up to visiting my family this year. So instead I recorded a video with my baby and wished everyone a happy new year through WeChat."

Instant messaging apps are changing the way many people connect during the new year. New year dinners can be booked online and new year shopping be done at your fingertips.
