Massive crowds took advantage of celebrating one of the last street festivities this year associated with the carnival.

Over the weekend, more then 30 block parties filled the streets of Rio with revellers.

After dazzling spectators with their flamboyant carnival parades, Rio de Janeiro’s top six samba schools came back to the Sambadrome on Saturday to show off their skills one more time at the Parade of Champions.

Twelve schools took part in the official Carnival samba dancing competition, ranked according to the quality of their music, dancing, costumes and floats.

The top six were then invited to participate in the Champions Parade, which takes place on the Saturday night following the Carnival.

"The samba avenue is wonderful. It’s a unique feeling. I also went to the Rio block parties in the streets, so wonderful. Next year I’ll bring my foreign friends." Ana Leticia, Brazilian Model said.

Even the rain didn’t prevent revellers from coming to show their support for the winning schools.

Colourful floats and thousands of participants delighted spectators at the sambadrome all night.
