Dialogue 11/07/10 Independence of South Sudan

South Sudan has finalized its arrangements to become the world''s newest state via declaration of independence slated on July 9. However, South Sudan faces a host of challenges such as internal insecurity, an uneasy relationship with its former civil war foe in the north, and a need to build infrastructure and national institutions virtually from scratch. Many issues are still outstanding between north and south Sudan, including oil, border demarcation, external debts and the Abyei region.
