These days Americans are still licking wounds of the 911 terrorist attacks of ten years ago. Part of their sentiments turn against China whom they say has benefited enormously from the umbrella that the US provides in fighting terrorism in the forefront. Those hawks in the DC argue that more of the US resources should have been used to contain the peaceful rise of China. Mr. Kishore Mabubani, an influential Singaporean diplomat and author, says recently that China has seized the strategic opportunity over the past decade to develop its own economy and become the second biggest powerhouse. The Chinese government has refuted such allegation saying the prosperity of China had started from 30 or so years ago and that China has been a victim of terror in Xinjiang and in the Somali waters. In today’s discussion, we are joined by Mr. Ma Zhengang, former Chinese ambassador to Britain and Mr. Tao Wenzhao with Tsinghua University.
