The stand-off between China and Philippines in the South China Sea has lasted for three weeks without signs of any compromise. Manila chooses to play war games with the US whose ambiguous position on the maritime conflict has caused public debate in the Philippines. In contrast, China looks more confident that tensions will not escalate unless more military vessels are sent by Manila to fill the conflicts.
