Dialogue 20120528 Afghanistan in transition

Earlier this month, the United States and Afghanistan signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement through till 2024. It paves the way for a continuing US military presence in Afghanistan after 2014, training Afghan troops. The Chicago NATO summit agenda had also been dominated on how to fund Afghan troops and combating the Taliban. The security bloc has reached an agreement on the road forward in Afghanistan, and will lead a training and assistance mission in the country after 2014, when the alliance transfers security responsibility to the Afghan side.
