Dialogue 20120613 Japan provokes tensions near Diaoyu Islands

06-14-2012 09:09 BJT

Japan is once again raising the pitch over the the Diaoyu islands, with some high-profile politicians from the ruling DPJ party planning to visit the islands in an attempt to demonstrate the country's sovereignty over them. These moves are believed to be a preparation for the hearing on Monday following the governor of Tokyo's announcement that the city will buy a group of islands in the chain. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has reiterated many times that Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands have been China's inherent territory since ancient times, and any action that infringes upon China’s sovereignty will be strongly opposed.
