Dialogue 07/14/2012 Bohai Bay oil spills lawsuit

07-15-2012 05:36 BJT

The latest report by the State Ocean Administration has ruled that the US energy giant ConocoPhillips China is fully responsible for two major oil spills last year. The severe leaks have polluted 6,200 square kilometers of water an area about 9 times the size of Singapore. Some of the Chinese fishermen are not happy with the damage compensation agreement and decided to take it to the court in Houston United States. But why did it take ConocoPhillips China so long to block the bills, limit the damage and to pay the compensations? Does the Chinese legislature review its own slow progress in protecting the rights of fishermen?
