Cheng Shifa

Cheng Shifa was born in 1921 in Shanghai''s suburban Songjiang District. He graduated from the Shanghai Art School in 1941 and held his first art show a year later. Cheng excelled at figure painting, landscape painting, and flower-and-bird painting. He was also interested in painting comics. Cheng Shifa had produced thousands of comics and these comics provided the foundation for his future creation. In many of his art pieces he chose the theme of the life of the ethnic groups. Before he started to paint the pieces Cheng usually took photos of people''s life as raw materials From all these photos he would choose some unique moments to paint on canvas his own style of art creation. In his later life Cheng Shifa was attached to his hometown and often came home so Songjiang. So he donated 122 paintings which he collected and he painted to Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy. And then, in the year 2005 he donated 80 paintings to his hometown Songjiang.
