In most cities around Africa, the popular social activity trending now is comedy.

Our cameras closely followed 4 amazing comedians from 3 African countries, Kenyan Erick Omondi, Ugandan Salvador and Nigerian Akpororo and Oke Bakasi McAntony.

Their mission is making Africa laugh.

Salvador, Ugandan comedian, “Our women are not used to compliments, like one time I wanted to be romantic like Shakespeare, I sent her a message and said, “Baby, if you are in the kitchen send me your aroma. If you are sleeping send me your dreams! She replied “I’m in the toilet, what should I send?”

Akpororo from Nigeria has passion for football, his love for the game hasn’t faded, he still plays but he decided to go into comedy in order to make money. According to him, it takes time to make it in football in his country. He is one of the greatest comedians in Nigeria.

Erick, Kenyan comedian, “I never thought I would do comedy professionally or as a career.” Eric shot to fame performing on a popular Kenyan T.V show hosted by one of Kenya’s leading comedians Daniel Ndambuki, also affectionately known as Churchill.

Akpororo from Nigeria and Oke Bakasi from Nigeria.

He studied Communication at Daystar University where he honed his comedy skills. Erick’s studies never came easy. With his mother’s death, things were not easy because she was the bread winner but Eric had a great desire to make it in life.

After staying home for a year after being dismissed from campus due to lack of tuition fees, he was lucky to get a scholarship and resume his studies.

These comedians have been able to make a decent living from their trade. No social event in these countries is complete without the presence of one of these comedians.

Salvador, “In Uganda comedy has become the in-thing. Any function without a comedian is no function at all. Like I have highlighted so many shows, I have hosted Miss Uganda twice.”

“Today a young man or woman can decide to be a comedian and will be comfortable. They will make it to sustain themselves and their families. So there is a lot of development and growth happening, says Oke Bakasi McAntony Nigerian comedian.

Indeed the comedians are getting paid handsomely. They are flying from country to country promoting their comedy events. In spite of their personal challenges and the tough environment that surrounds them in Africa, these four comedians are bringing joy and laughter to the African continent.

“Africa is a beautiful continent. We have so many things that we want to share with the world, things that the world doesn’t know. There’s too much in Africa than war and poverty!” says Salvador.

With their greatest mission to make Africa laugh, Oke Bakasi sums it up by saying, “Everything in life is about happiness. If there’s happiness in a home, it is a better place to live. If there is happiness at the workplace it is a better place for everybody. Life is just about happiness. And any day happiness flees nothing else makes sense. You want out.”
