7,000 years ago, our ancient ancestors took a fancy to a strange, greenish stone, and began fashioning decorative items out of it. The stone, as you may have guessed, was jade, and this was the beginning of Chinese jade culture.
With its fine quality, jade stone was soon marked out as something that ought to be valued - and in extreme cases, even worshipped. With time, jade became a symbol of power, wealth and good fortune. Even today, jade retains a certain air of mystique.
