CCTV NEWS launches in Sri Lanka

CCTV NEWS has been officially launched in the South Asian island nation of Sri Lanka. A ceremony was held Friday in the capital Colombo. Over two hundred people attended, including the Sri Lankan Prime Minister.

The launch is the result of cooperation with Sri Lanka's VIS Broadcasting company.

Residents of Colombo can now watch CCTV News at home. And ties between the two countries will improve.

Marking the occasion were CCTV Deputy editor-in-chief Huang Chuanfang, Chinese Embassy delegate Han Tao and several Sri Lankan ministers.

Huang Chuanfang thanked Sri Lankan viewers for their support and outlined the new look CCTV NEWS.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Jayaratne is optimistic about the prospects.

CCTV NEWS can be received in 97 countries and regions. Nearly 100 million viewers now have access to the 24-hour news channel.
