Probe reveals new information of Poland plane crash

05-20-2010 13:25 BJT Special Report: Polish President Dies In Plane Crash |

No conclusions have been reached as to the cause of the deadly April 10th plane crash outside the Russian city of Smolensk. But officials investigating the accident that killed Poland's president, and 95 others, say the crew did not have regular training, and that passengers were in the cockpit before the crash.

Alexei Morozov, Technical Official, Interstate Aviation Committee, said, "The Polish crew didn't undergo regular, periodic training on a flight simulator. This includes mastering interactions and special situations in flight. The crew was assembled a few days before the trip."

Other details of the joint Polish and Russian investigation include the revelation that at least two passengers visited the cockpit before the plane crashed.

Other passengers may have chatted on cell phones, possibly affecting navigation operations, as the crew battled heavy fog over challenging terrain.
