The history of China-US relations is full of twists and turns, so every step forward is precious. The second round of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue will be another boost for both nations.

In 2005, the two countries began the China-US strategic dialogue, the first mechanized strategic dialogue between the two. One year later, the two sides started the strategic economic dialogue, the highest level of China-US consultative mechanisms. In 2008, the handling of the global financial crisis furthered the mutual dependence and trust between the two sides.

US President Barack Obama had expressed hope the dialogue will become a comprehensive one. The first Strategic AND Economic Dialogue was first held last July in Washington D.C.. The current second round of the dialogue sees an American delegation of more than 200 members from various departments of the federal government, including the Pentagon and the army. It is also one of the biggest-ever American delegations to visit China.
