A Chinese senior military official says China is committed to developing all-round relations with the US, including bilateral military ties.

Deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Mao Xiaotian, noted that China attaches great importance to developing and enhancing cooperation in military fields with the US. This is based on the principles of mutual respect, trust and benefit. He adds there are obstacles in developing bilateral military ties, in particular the US sale of weapons to Taiwan. This has severely damaged the Sino-US relations. Mao Xiaotian said the US has violated the three joint communiques signed by both China and the US. However, he added China is willing to promote bilateral military ties on the basis of respecting mutual core interests.
