The East Turkistan Islamic Movement is the most harmful terrorist organization linked to the east Turkistan extremist forces.

In the early 20th century, a tiny number of separatists and religious extremists in China's Xinjiang politicized the term "East Turkistan," and fabricated an "ideological and theoretical system" about the "independence of East Turkistan." Separatists of different shades in Xinjiang formed the "East Turkistan" forces trying to establish a separatist regime.

With the support of hostile foreign forces, the movement has been trumpeting national separatism. They've also plotted and organized a number terror attacks jeopardizing national unification, social stability and ethnic unity. They also carried out a series of terrorist activities in China to sabotage the Beijing Olympic Games.
