Local authorities say the Fuhe river dyke is being consolidated after a breach was repaired Sunday in east China's Jiangxi Province.
The river breached its dyke twice after days of torrential rains last week. The newly-repaired section will be fortified with 5,000 cubic meters of stones and 20,000 cubic meters of clay, increasing the dyke's width to more than 36 meters.
A senior officer of the armed police says the project will take three days. The new barrier will be able to withstand the surge in flood water volume during the rainy season from July to October.
