The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has called on 17 provinces to prepare for possible flooding.

Due to a new round of heavy rainstorms in the last two days in the southern part of China, water levels in many rivers are at or are nearing danger levels. In Hunan province, the water flow in the Xiangjiang River has passed the danger level. In Jiangxi province, Poyang Lake is close to bursting its banks.

Meanwhile many tributaries along the Yangtse River are also on high alert. The Headquarters has asked relevant provinces to pay close attention to water levels, strengthen preparations in case of flooding and landslides, and work to minimize possible losses.
