High temperatures continue to keep the summer feeling alive across Europe, as a wave of sunshine sweeps across the continent.

The Italian capital, Rome, saw temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius along with high levels of humidity. Many of the city's fountains were used by tourists looking for light relief from the heat.

Others kept the sun off with brightly-colored umbrellas. In the German city of Frankfurt, outdoor thermometers were hitting 28 degrees Celsius by half past ten in the morning. But the heat didn't put off the city's athletes, as runners and cyclists in abundance made their way alongside the river Main.

Temperatures across Germany are set to soar over the coming weekend.
