Torrential rainfall and melted snow has caused the Golmud River in Northwest China's Qinghai Province to overflow and flood. It's the worst flooding in 20 years.
China's Office of State Flood Control has launched a level 4 emergency response. This means the monitoring and response to emergencies will be stepped up and reported to the State Council directly.
The Office also stresses the need for flood relief efforts along the Yangtze River as strong rains are expected to hit the area in coming days. Local governments are making every effort to ensure local residents are evacuated to safer places.
