The Golmud Wenquan reservoir is currently peaking at dangerously high water levels, which is threatening the safety of Golmud City. The local government has dispatched soldiers to immediately reinforce the dam.

This is the Golmud floodgate, 25 miles from Golmud city. It's usually used for agricultural irrigation purposes. But now, it is the last defense to prevent flooding Golmud City.

From here, you can see that parts of the dam have been damaged due to ferocious flow of flood waters.

But, the local government is acting fast to protect residents and the city.

Luo Baowei, vice mayor of Golmud City, said, "Guozhen Town is over there. All the crops are also there. The flood is a big threat."

Soldiers from different provinces have been sent to the reservoir to take action and prevent major flooding. They are reinforcing the dam with lead string and large stones.

Worker of Golmud floodgatem said, "I have been working here since early this morning. I don't feel tired."

Early Friday morning, the dam was about to burst. An excavator was swept into the river by the strong floods. Luckily, no-one was hurt.

It is estimated that the water volume is gushing at 240 cubic meters per second. That will be more than doubled in the coming days.
