Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, used his speech at the annual Cross-Strait forum to highlight the significance of the event. He said the forum has played a constructive role in cross-Strait cooperation.

Jia Qinglin, Chairman of CPPCC National Committee, said, "This forum, sponsored by the Kuomintang Party and the Communist Party of China, plays an important role in promoting cross-strait communications between the two parties. The past five forums focused on the economy, culture, and education. They opened the path for cross-strait communication and development. This year's theme is "strengthening cooperation in new industries, and enhancing competitiveness". This forum follows the signing of the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement, and will focus on cross-Strait cooperation in green energy, energy conservation and environmental protection. A cultural and educational symposium will be held. This is an important step in further developing cross-strait relations. It reflects an expectation to realize mutual benefit, and meet the requirements of cross-strait economic development.
