Over the past few days, torrential rains have been battering East China's Anhui Province, wreaking havoc in many cities. In one community in Anqing, flooding had trapped more than 10-thousand residents, with water depths reaching 3 meters.

A community crippled by floods.

As rainfall begins to show signs of easing, water levels are dropping.

Buildings once under meters of water are appearing again. Residents try to return to a normal life, eagerly drying off personal items that have been submerged for days.

Gao Jinsheng, Political Commissar, Anqing Armed Police Force, said, "Water levels have dropped by over one meter in the Huating Community.'

Despite falling water levels, some areas are still sitting under more than a meter of water.

Some local residents have returned home to retrieve what's left of their belongings. To ensure their safety, soldiers have been transporting residents by boat.

Ms. Wang was evacuated by soldiers yesterday, and has returned home to see what she can salvage from her possessions.

Despite the dangers posed by flood waters, some residents are choosing to ride out the storm in their homes.

Government officials have sent food aid to those staying behind.

But easing water levels only brought a short sense of relief, as weather forecasts predicted more rain in the coming days.

Gao said, "It is forecasted that more rains are expected to hit the city, with water levels continuing to rise. We have prepared six boats to rescue residents."

Working around the clock, soldiers are doing their best to pump water and to transfer residents out of danger.
