Premier Wen holds talks with German Chancellor

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have started talks here in Beijing, focusing on economic and political issues.

Wen hosted a red-carpet welcome ceremony for Merkel at the Great Hall of the People before their meeting. President Hu Jintao will meet with Merkel during her stay in Beijing. She will also pay a visit to Xi'an in northwest China's Shaanxi Province. Trade and economic issues top the agenda.

Merkel has brought with her a large delegation of German business owners. A series of cooperation agreements are expected to be signed. It's Merkel's fourth visit to China since taking office in 2005.
