Severe flooding has also hit central China's Hubei Province. Rising water levels trapped several residents in a county of Xiaogan City. Let's take a look at how soldiers beat the odds to rescue the trapped.

Firefighters rushed to a village in Xiaochang County early Saturday morning. A villager had been trapped by floods for a whole night.

But the mission to reach him was not an easy one, as the rescuers' small boat was surrounded by very strong water currents.

After half an hour of trying, the soldiers finally stabilized the boat and reached the trapped villager.

Ren Guoqing, Chief of Staff, Xiaogan Fire Brigade, said, "It was not easy. We had to use full speed to break through the oncoming water."

Following the rescue, the soldiers attempted to reach another five people at the lower reaches of the river.

Another 30 minutes of trying proved just as difficult. But they succeeded again, and were just in time. The boat the trapped people had been standing on was quickly washed away.

Rescued Villager, Xiaochang County, said, "We were trying to fix our boat when the floods hit us. The rope was broken and we were trapped there."

Fan Jie, Xiaogan Fire Brigade, said, "This is our duty. I feel so proud we managed to rescue the people."

The soldiers say their mission to rescue villagers will go on as long as the floods continue.
