Pressure is mounting on dykes in the Jiujiang Section of the Yangtze River as water levels remain above the warning line.
Water is eroding the levee in the 1.8- kilometer-long border strip between the Yangtze River and Poyang Lake in Jiangxi Province. Around 26,000 workers are on a 24-hour operation, patrolling the dyke in case of occasional bursts. 51 emergency groups are working around the clock to strengthen the structure. The flood peak from the Three Gorges Dam is due to arrive in six days time. High water levels are expected to continue until the end of the month.
