One of the highlights from the Council's newly issued circular is the move to raise the level of compensation for victims of workplace accidents.

According to the new plan, a family of a worker who dies in a workplace accident will be entitled to 20 times the per capita urban disposable income in a one-off payment.

According to last year's statistics, the new scheme would bring the one-off compensation level up to nearly 344-thousand yuan, and combined with the allowance package, each family could receive at least 618-thousand yuan in compensation.

Huang Yi, Spokesman of State Admin. of Work Safety, said, "We are always trying to find an accident restraint mechanism. This would make workplace accidents extremely expensive for industries, and in this way reduce mishaps. If accidents happen, the related industry will be fined heavily."
