China, Japan hold 1st round of negotiation on East China Sea issue

China and Japan have conducted the first round of negotiations on implementing the principles of consensus with regards to the issue of the East China Sea.

Present at the talks were Director General of the Chinese Foreign Ministry's Boundary and Ocean Affairs Department, Ning Fukui, and Akitaka Saiki, Director General of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau.

The two sides exchanged views in a candid and practical way. Both sides agreed to make concerted efforts to gradually accelerate the process of implementing the principles of consensus through friendly consultations, and attain the common goal of turning the East China Sea into a sea of peace, cooperation and friendship.
