All the major hospitals in Nanjing have been on round the clock standby. They have allocated emergency areas to treat hundreds of people injured in the blast.
Local authorities say the injured have been immediately sent to various local hospitals for treatment. One hospital in Nanjing has received about 82 people suffering fractures and burns.
Ding Yitao, head of Gulou Hospital, Nanjing, said, "We have set up an emergency headquarters for treating the injuries. We have also classified the patients at three different levels for different treatment, which is according to international criteria. Every patient is looked after by one doctor and one nurse.
