Inter Milan took on Serie A rivals AS Roma in the Supercoppa Italiana. Roma led in the 21st minute thanks to Norwegian defender John Arne Riise. He dodged the defenders and reached the ball for a close-range score. AS Roma celebrates a 1-0 lead over Inter.
But Macedonian striker Goran Pandev made the scoreline even shortly before half time. Inter put on the pressure and the Roma defenders lost their cool and the ball. Pandev intercepted a pass meant for the Roma goalkeeper and scored easily 1-1.
Inter dominated possession in the second half. Cameroonian hitman Samuel Eto'o made the difference for the defending league champions with 20 minutes to go. He sneaked-in at the near post to turn in Argentinean forward Diego Milito's low cross. Eto'o makes it 2-1 for Inter Milan.
And Inter wasn't through with Roma's poor defense. Eto'o made another great play and fired the ball past Bogdan Lobont in the Roma goal. That score sealed a 3-1 win for Inter. The Nerazzurri cap their fifth Supercoppa crown, and join city rivals AC Milan as the most successful side in the history of the trophy match.
