The Afghan government has rejected media reports that some Afghan officials are on the payroll of the CIA, the United States' intelligence agency.
The New York Times and Washington Post claims half of all Afghan officials are being paid by the CIA. The Afghan government says the reports will have a negative impact on relations with the US. The two countries are already at loggerheads over President Hamid Karzai's decision to ban private security companies from operating in Afghanistan from next year.
Most of them are run by Americans or hired by Americans. U.S. officials have also been criticizing the Afghan government's alleged administrative corruption.
