The 5.1 ton Sinosat 6 is being carried by a Long March 3B rocket to its Geostationary Transfer Orbit. It is the rocket with the biggest commercial carrying capacity currently in the world.
The rocket is 56 meters long with a circumference of 3.35 meters. There are four small auxiliary boosters installed to increase the rocket's power. So far, it has successfully launched satellites 12 times in China.
Hao Zhaoping, deputy director of China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, said, "China's international commercial satellite launches are all carried out by Long March 3B. This was the 13th launching of a Long March 3B. The rocket undertakes commercial satellite launching as well as domestic telecommunication launching."
