Germany celebrates 20 years of reunification

Thousands of Germans have attended an official ceremony to celebrate the country's 20th anniversary of re-unification in the northwest city of Bremen.

Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Christian Wulff, European Commission President, Jose Manuel Barroso and NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen,were also in attendence.

President Christian Wulff, highlighted the achievements of the past 20 years and paid tribute to East Germans, for their courage and efforts, to shoulder the vast majority of change. Wulff also said, integration of society, is a priority, in his term and that he hoped Muslims and other immigrants, would better adapt better in the rapidly changing world.

Wulff said there are still structural differences and major gaps between the country's East and West. The East has lagged, far behind in both productivity and consumption.
